In Memory Of
William Leo Nelson, founding owner of El Encanto, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 67, after a brief battle with cancer. His last days were spent at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born on January 2, 1943 in Marietta, Georgia to James D. and Christine D. Nelson, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona 6 months later. He has been a resident of Arizona for the remainder of his life, spending the last 25 years in Cave Creek. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1968.
After completing school, he worked as a salesman and then started a successful computer company, Timesharing Techniques. Finally, in 1989, he followed his love of Mexico and hospitality and opened El Encanto Restaurant in Cave Creek.
El Encanto was his pride and joy. He has cherished working with so many committed people over the years, calling many of them his close friends. Creating a place where so many have shared great times and lasting memories brought him immeasurable happiness.
Bill left El Encanto to his children: Christine, Alex, Jennifer and Lauren. Christine, who has operated the business for the last eight years, will continue to do so. The tradition of El Encanto will be carried on in our father’s honor.
A service will be held to celebrate the life of this amazing man on July 1, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Carefree Resorts and Villas Opera House.
Father Mike Herrington will conduct the services.
Reception to follow.
